Unseen Battles: Tackling Mental Health Concerns for Comprehensive Recovery

Addiction rarely stands alone as the only diagnosis for a client who admits to Legacy Village. More than 85% of Veterans with a drug or alcohol problem also struggle with a mental health concern. Addiction frequently is a co-occurring disorder, with Veterans, First Responders & Military experiencing struggles from Anxiety, Depression, PTSD, or other concerns as well.

Legacy Village is equipped to understand dual diagnosis and has built our program model around the need clients have to address both behavioral and mental health problems. It is highly important for those completing the Legacy Village program to spend time addressing all relevant conditions prior to discharge. Our team can help better equip you for the newly discovered, and exciting, wellness and recovery journey ahead.

Anxiety

Anxiety disorders involve intense, excessive, and persistent worry about everyday situations, often leading to panic attacks that interfere with daily activities, and may prompt avoidance of certain places or situations. Despite the variety of anxiety disorders, which can sometimes co-occur or result from other medical conditions, effective treatment is available.

Depression

Depression, a common and treatable medical illness, negatively influences emotions, thoughts, and actions, leading to a range of symptoms such as sadness, loss of interest, and difficulty thinking, and can significantly impair functionality. While it can mimic certain medical conditions, affect anyone at any age, and show heritability, it is more likely to appear during late teens to mid-20s and is more prevalent among women.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a psychiatric disorder that can occur in anyone who has experienced or witnessed a traumatic event, leading to intense, disturbing thoughts and feelings that persist long after the event, and may include avoidance behaviors and strong negative reactions. While PTSD can affect anyone regardless of age, ethnicity, or nationality, it has higher prevalence rates among women and certain ethnic groups, with approximately one in 11 people expected to be diagnosed with PTSD in their lifetime.

The most common marital problems often include communication breakdowns, frequent arguments, dissatisfaction with the sexual relationship, lack of quality time together, financial disputes, differing views on parenting, and infidelity. These issues can lead to emotional drain and feelings of loneliness, but by recognizing them and actively working towards resolution, couples can navigate through these challenges towards a healthier relationship.
